Had a good training with my team today.
My position now has been decided. I'm a front/mid guy. A position that i really want. being a mid player is a good balance of aggressive front and support back.
We did lots of drills. A breakout drill. Where i learnt that it's actually better to use the hand on the side that you're shooting on. So right side of the field, hold marker in right hand and vice versa. I also learned a defensive breakout. With back-to-back movement to the back centre bunker.
Did an entry to bunker drill which was quite like what BBen taught me the last time i went down for PB.
Also did a bunkering drill. Benguin taught us some cool tricks. Like running low to bunker. and to keep the body squared to the direction of run and only having the marker turn to the side instead of the whole body turn to the side.. to lean forward to run, mroe like controlled falling. so the body is low.
we also did some 1v1 snap shooting drills. those videos i watched that gave tips on snap shooting were really helpful. And it's confirm that i do the thomas taylor/todd martinez/oliver lang style of snapshooting instead of the rollout method by maximus lunqvist. Those tips on to use the entire length of the bunker. coming from above and below to keep the other person guessing and to surprise him was damn good advice. i managed to get cheeyong out.. shooting at him from low..
On a personal note. I should hold the marker barrel up instead of barrel at the target coz the flight trajectory of the paintball is parabolic. So i'd have to point the barrel higher for further..
I also learnt quite alot from Cheeyong. He's one of the most experienced players on my team alongside Kenny and Yazid. So i have been in paintball for quite some time but i have never participated in a tournament before. So yesterday i learnt quite a lot from cheeyong. Basically coz he plays a mid/back position. But Sophie did tell me that cheeyong plays a little too much on the safe side. I'll take that into mind.
Cheeyong taught me about "spraying" everywhere and the importance of communication with my teammates to move up the field.. A far side from playing front where u just go up and the backs just cover u.. In mid. u have to watch ur movement so that, firstly, u won't get urself shot out by the opposite team.. Secondly, to avoid being friendly fired by your own teammates..
really learnt alot yesterday..
looking forward to the next training with my dear team to put our drills to the test..

Paintball 13/2/11
Another paintball session..
Had a good game with Team Blitz again.. This time, they made vast improvements.. I was playing dorito side which literally wasn't a dorito side coz the doritos were at the back and cans were in the middle of the field.. I ran out of paint thru the first game.. The second game, i got shot out gunfighting my mirror.. it was the same exact problem of snapshooting.. The ball going outwards away from the bunker instead of straight down the side..
Point to take note that i spam quite alot of paint. So no go to sharing paints. A bag for each training. Full pods in.
Big Ben was around so i requested him to put me thru some drills. Since he was a back player, he taught us a back player drill.. Told him i was playing mid/front, so this drill could help me with a fill-in/insert.. It was a drill from the back centre and with the gun up, run and gun to a corner then knee/hip sliding into the corner bunker then gun up to shoot down either the tape or the inside..
It was great.. it was tiring too.. so i asked him about the problem i have of snapshooting..
and little that i know. the answer has been staring at me the whole time..!! The answer lay in being close to the "magic line"..!! instead of standing in the middle of the bunker where when you come out, your barrel would be off coz of the positiong you're standing at, stand close to the magic line of the side that you're gonna snapshoot from, that way, the barrel will come out straight instead of going off.. and also.. to make use of all the sides of the bunker, especially, the least expected low side of the bunker.. meaning to snap out while kneeling/squatting to gunfight a standing guy..
Ben also mentioned that the 3 point crawl is very important for the snake player.. and walking the field too. coz the poles of the field netting can be used as indicators to know where to shoot at when popping up instead of popping up then finding where to shoot.. And also to move up and down the snake instead of staying at one spot. To keep the other players guessing coz the snake is a hotspot. Another trick is to kick the bunker at the back to "mislead" other players that you're there..
Really learnt alot from Big Ben.. Talked to him about sponsorship too.. and how Dye Precision has help mould the paintball community in Singapore with sponsorship of equipment..
Hafiz for Red 7s..?? hmmm...
i also saw the power of a loader on a mech marker, about the same as having an e-marker. Big ben got me to shoot his PMR which was kinda cool.. i can't walk the trigger for nuts.. xD.. the marker shoots damn straight and the trigger is damn sensitive to the touch.. I'm gonna get a rotor real soon.. either end of this month or when march pay comes in..
on another note. i've been spending quite some time playing paintball with jordan.. and jordan plays snake.. maybe i could play his back since it's a position that complements the snake and has to work hand in hand with. and since i do alot of ballin' with him.. might as well work in tandem with him..
I can imagine myself laning out the snake and down the snake tape.. xD

Paintball on the 16th of Jan.. First paintball session of the new year..
Played against the well-established Team Contract Killers. Got owned pretty much all of the time.. My mind was pretty much set on playing mid. But i was tasked to play snake.
So it took some readjustment since i haven't played snake in a very long time.. I tried to apply laning out my mirror then moving it into the snake.
But Sham, a very good snake player, got into the snake on the break. and pretty much controlled the snake. I don't know who the snake back was, but he laned the snake quite well. and there was no chance of me getting in.
heck. i never made it into the snake for both the games i played...
observation: For RD field, get into the snake fast and move up fast too. That's a good lesson for me. To move up the snake faster.
Off the break, run and dive into the snake..

Went for paintball. Whole team wasn't around, only Kenny and Jordan came. But team blitz was there. they were newcomers so we played with them. 3 on 3s.
I generally played dorito side since jordan was playing snake side. Learnt quite a few things from the mistakes i made.
Dorito bunker - Remember to stay tight to the bunker. The edges of the bunker make it unpredictable when balls come in along the sides.
When moving up, if i also catch another player moving up. And u see the other guy quickly take cover, don't bother hiding also, go out and BUNKER him.
I got the opportunity to play back. I believed i did a great job shutting lanes down and keeping their backs pinned in. Was exceptionally please when jordan commended on my communication which was loud and precise.
I watched the Red Sevens do some drills which i think will be good to implement into my own time or during team training. they did a snap shooting drill. where they started in a power position with the thighs in a 90 degree position then moving up to a bunker. do a snap shoot then move up to another bunker to snap shoot but the secondary bunker has another guy firing back. A real good drill. Practices snap shooting reflexes.
The last 2 games were played with a 4 on 4. with Tom joining us. And team blitz had some outlaw guy join them. They called him Jose and he's a snake player. and he's fast. I was playing dorito side and was tasked to shut him down but the bunkers didn't allow it. These last 2 games were extremely fast not even lasting 5 minutes on the field each.
The first of these last 2 games was a blur coz it happened too fast but we won. The only thing i remember was me laning back left from dorito corner and moving up to the 2nd dorito only to see tom waaayyy up front bunkering the last guy out. WOW. Epic. good to take noters from tom. he's one fo the pioneers in paintball. real great.
The last game was similar. happening fast. i remember running and gunning to the first dorito in vain attempt to get Jose out. I quickly bumped up to dorito 2 and got a guy out of the tombstone infront of snake. Think i bonus balled him, but the balls all bounced off him. and i heard kenny from the bunker just behind me and i pinned the last guy out as kenny bunkered him out. we ended the game with 4 man alive. rather impressive.
after the game i was told that jordan was pinned at the tombstone adjacent to the snake at Jose already went into the snake but Tom went up to bunker him. EPIC. a real pioneer.
And after today, i really really think i'm suited to play a mid position. A mix of both. Of aggression and passiveness. Of providing firepower yet supporting it. Damn cool. With jordan helming the snake and Derek on Dorito side, think i'll do Mid.
Heartbreakers have lost Zai to Rampage Onslaught and Roc to studies. So we're kinda short of players. There's like Kenny, Yazid, Jordan, Derek, Me, Chee Yong.. maybe Ben Junior can come back. that leaves a slot for one more guy.
anyways, i think jordan really needs to get more aggressive. Must find some drills to help him out. He's real small and that's an advantage. Imagine aggression in a small package. Damn. Snake's gonna be HOT with jordan in. So yeah. he needs to build on his aggression.
I think i want to get a rotor. lol.

Okay so I haven't been going for archery for quite some time..
I know I've written this down in my main blog but since this blog is for training purposes, thought that i'd put it down here too.
I haven't been going to archery in quite some time partly due to the fact that it's the fasting month, but mainly cause i injured my shoulder. Now it's healed. But now i have a dilemma.
I wanna purchase some new stuff.. But both for paintball and archery..
Which should i choose..?
Paintball:
Empire E-vents Thermal Yellow Lens
Empire Grind Knee Pads
Empire React 3+6 Pack
NXe Pods
Archery:
Win&Win 10inch HMc sidestabs Black
Cavalier Elite Cordovan Fingertab small
Cap weights
Base/mid weights
The archer in me wants the archery stuff, since fasting month is coming to an end and now that my shoulder is healed i can work on my form change again. Plus i need the cavalier tab for the change too.
The paintballer in me wants the stuff so that i can look much cooler with the yellow lens amd i can save my knees with the pads. but come to think of it, I'm not gonna be involved with SPS 2010 coz Heartbreakers has already fielded 7 players. And i don't think i'll be playing with other teams coz i've seen the others and, besides for team CK, i don't seem to click with them well.. I'll most probably be crewing for Heartbreakers during SPS. And it's not more of a need, the items are a want.

Need to work on my snapshooting in the snake. Gonna try out Maximus' rollout snapshooting from the snake.
Need to work on my individual marker-handling skills:
- switching hands
- find a way to aim when off-handed
- any excess paint after training goes to switch hands training in shooting gallery
Overview of game vs Outlaws.
- breakoff, running to snake back & gunning towards the centre, as gun movement laning to the centre is faster (more balls there) then laning snake while running.
- laning snake to be done by back center/central players.
- when bumping up from snake back to snake, dive straight into snake 1 and not into snakehead.
